Our team of experienced, skilled ENT specialists at The Barranco Clinic can diagnose your issues and, if necessary, perform surgery to remove all or a portion of the tissue in the tonsils and adenoids, relieving your symptoms so you can get back to enjoying your life.

Treatment Options

Surgery is usually recommended for chronic tonsil and adenoid infections. At The Barranco Clinic, our seasoned ENT doctors can perform the following procedures:

  • Tonsillectomy – This outpatient operation can provide sustainable relief from uncomfortable symptoms. The surgeon removes the tonsils using specialized instruments that prevent undue bleeding. A tonsillectomy can help prevent tonsillitis, reduce chronic infections, and optimize your breathing.
  • Adenoidectomy – This is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia to remove the adenoid glands, thus halting the progression of neverending infections, which occur most often in young children. The adenoids are first evaluated using an X-ray or endoscope. The surgeon will then remove the glands using a specialized device that limits excess bleeding.

About Chronic Infections

The adenoids and tonsils are immune warriors, helping to fend off bacterial and viral infections. Unfortunately, sometimes even warriors get ill. When an infection arises, the adenoids and tonsils can become inflamed, causing them to swell up and cause pain. Both breathing and sleeping can be compromised, necessitating medical intervention.

FAQs

Who is at risk of getting chronic tonsil and adenoid infections?

Almost anyone can suffer from an infection in their tonsils or adenoids. However, adults tend to ward off infections more easily than young children. Therefore the majority of patients seeking treatment for chronic tonsil and adenoid infections are youths.

Is surgery the only treatment option?

Medications can be viable in the short term for those who only intermittently experience infections in their tonsils and adenoids. But for those experiencing chronic infections that do not respond to medications, surgery may be the only effective approach.

How long does the recovery from tonsil or adenoid surgery take?

Most patients can recover from surgery within 1-2 weeks. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis, with the client resting and recovering at home.
